Apple’s recent unveiling of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max brought an exciting innovation, the “Action Button,” replacing the traditional mute switch and offering versatile functions. But here’s the scoop: The iPhone 16 series, including the iPhone 16 Pro Max, is primed to introduce another intriguing addition known internally as “Project Nova” – the “Capture Button.”
The Capture Button is poised to be a capacitive button situated on the right-side frame of the iPhone, just below the Power Button, slightly lower than the mmWave cutout featured on the iPhone 15 models. This adjustment of the mmWave cutout is a result of the new placement of the Capture Button, now nestled on the left-side frame, just below the volume buttons.
The exact purpose of the Capture Button is still under wraps, but it’s anticipated to replicate the tactile experience of a physical button, much like the Home Button on the iPhone SE. Sources also hint at the inclusion of force sensor capabilities. Notably, in contrast to the Action Button, exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Capture Button is set to grace the entire iPhone 16 series, spanning both the standard and Plus models.
Apple has wisely prepared for any unforeseen challenges during implementation by configuring the hardware to allow for the exclusion of the Capture Button.
In addition to the Capture Button, the iPhone 16 series is set to introduce the “Project Atlas” capacitive Action Button, designed akin to the Capture Button. It will employ strain gauges and reluctance motors to provide haptic feedback.
Furthermore, the iPhone 16 is poised to showcase a revamped camera bump, adopting a vertical camera arrangement reminiscent of the iPhone 12. What’s more, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will sport larger screens, measuring 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, a 0.2-inch increase from their predecessors.
